Alastyr ignored the naked visitor who stood silent in his study. It was near dusk and the little light that remained slowly drained through small windows set high in stone walls. Detail in woodwork, plaster and stone became flat. Aged tomes and scripts flaunted upon tall shelves were reduced to vague, huddling shapes. What was clear in the failing light, however, was the cold purpose in the visitor's too-bright eyes.
